I love Friday’s. I always love Friday, but today is especially great. Here’s a few reasons why:
–I won a giveaway! So for the third time in my life, I have won something 🙂
-It’s jeans day at work. Love wearing jeans to work 🙂
-The sun is shining pretty brightly today- that’s always a good thing!
-It’s Good Friday. It doesn’t get much better than that
This is what I saw driving to work this morning. Good Friday indeed!
Rather than a typical post, I’m going to post the things that made me smile while browsing through Pinterest. This post will be as lighthearted as I feel, which for once in a long time, is VERY much lighthearted.
For my seester, who teased me relentlessly while growing up that I was, in fact, adopted.
We’ve all done this a time or two. Or twelve.
I can’t wait to say this to Elijah 🙂
I know I totally did!
I hope everyone has a great Easter weekend! 🙂
I saw this yesterday on one of the blogs I read on a regular basis, knocked over by a feather, and it really struck me. It’s some of these thoughts I struggle with on a daily basis. Not all of them, but most. It’s a constant battle that I feel like I will never win. Sometimes it’s a struggle to just have a genuine smile. Seeing this photo makes me sad that others feel this way (so. many. others.) but on some level, glad I’m not alone. Even when I feel alone.
She says it best on her post: “This is what depression does to us. This is bullshit.”
This picture has nothing to do with the post, but ohmygosh is he so cute 😉 Who doesn’t look cute with pants on their head??
As I’ve mentioned on here before, Elijah has gotten sick more times this year than I can count. He has missed 12 days of school, as well as being pretty sick on Thanksgiving and the beginning of Spring Break. He’s had strep once, tonsillitis twice, a major sinus infection, the flu (x 2), pink eye and an ear infection(which was the only thing he didn’t miss school for). On a normal, healthy day for him, his tonsils are huge. They look more like small golf balls than tonsils. The first reaction of anyone who looks inside his mouth is usually “Whoa!”. He snores like a man and breathes loudly through his mouth. Every year he gets strep at least once. I had talked to his doctor about Elijah’s tonsils being removed. His answer was no. Just no. Tonsils protect the body from getting sick and he needs them. I can certainly understand his point of view. But from my point of view my son is always sick and almost always on ‘the pink stuff’ (Amoxicillin). THAT can’t be healthy either. So after his ear infection more than a month ago, he has been unable to hear completely out of his left ear, and his doctor sent us to an ENT to check it out. I decided while we were there to suck some extra information out of him about his tonsils, even though that’s not why we were there in the first place. Because of his issues (especially the loud snoring and mouth breathing), that doctor thinks he’d be a good candidate for a T&A, which I can’t lie, I’m a little relieved about. We are holding off until the summer because I don’t want him to miss anymore school, but I’m hoping that this will help to reduce some of the sickness that seems to follow him around. It’s not good for him to be sick all the time, and I just can’t keep missing work left and right. My bank account is really suffering from all the missed days. (Although they are really good about allowing me the time off I need, which certainly helps!)
- Young Padawan… (shelconnors.wordpress.com)
I have said on here more times than I can count how much I love my job. And here is just another reason why I do. This week is Spring Week for Lijey. He has an appointment to an ENT since he hasn’t been able to hear out of his left ear since his ear infection 5 weeks ago. So rather than take a whole day off for that appointment, I’m taking a half day today and bringing Elijah to work with me. And boy is he excited. And he’s going to be even more excited when I show him the To-Do list my boss has made for him. Working with a bunch of guys means a fun time for him. He’s already met most of them at an event last week, and when he met my boss (who’s younger than me just for the record) he was shocked he wasn’t an old man! I’m not sure why he thought he was, but he’s relieved he’s a ‘cool guy’. And after seeing this list, he’s going to like him even more. (I totally googled what ‘young padawan’ meant because I’m uncool like that. I should maybe forewarn him that it’s from Star Wars so he’s got a little bit of a clue come the morning). And I guarantee that ‘taking abuse’ will be his favorite thing on the list (he’s like his mama- he likes taking it just as much as he loves giving it!)
I know that taking your child to work with you may not be the most ideal of situations. However, sometimes there aren’t a whole lot of options. And as hesitant as I was asking my boss if I could bring him in for a few hours, he immediately put me as ease about it. And then I come in and see this makeshift list of things to keep him busy- makes me feel even better. This is reason #267 of why I love my job.
As a side note, I wrote the above post yesterday. And now, as of 8:19 this morning, there have been two Nerf gun wars at work. Initiated by my boss. It’s tough working here 🙂
Hey free labor 🙂
- I’m a Dirty Single Mom… (shelconnors.wordpress.com)
Seriously. I am.
At least according to Google I am. I’m number two actually on the search page for “talk to dirty single moms”. I know that because I have visitors coming to my page after searching that exact term, so I researched it a little bit. Who knew that I could hit the front page of Google for anything, let alone for being dirty. (I actually feel a little dirty now, just reading all the other links on the results page. And a little bit dumber.) I can’t help feeling a little sorry for these people searching for “dirty single mom” and they then click on my blog- they must be gravely disappointed. They come upon my page and see recipes, how much I love my family, all sorts of stuff about my son- but nothing about being dirty. (Except for that one time I talked about how disgusting Elijah got at football. That was actual dirt though, like from the earth. I don’t think it’s the same kind of dirt these people are looking for). I try to keep my page as family friendly as possible; I’d like to have no qualms about Elijah reading these some day, which I’m sure he will. I wouldn’t say anything on here I wouldn’t say to my dad (mostly because he has me bookmarked on his bookmarks bar, and could read it all anyways), or to someone at church (because they read it too!). I don’t ever want to write something, and then regret it down the road, or fear that someone might read it and think poorly of me, or use that information against me. Or worse, tell my dad on me 😉
